Approval of increase in prices of 19 medicines including Paracetamol
The cost of medicines is low compared to other countries in the region, Ministry of Finance
The Economic Coordination Committee has approved price hikes for 19 medicines, including paracetamol products used for pain and fever.
The meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee was chaired by Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, in which various issues were discussed including the collection of electricity bills and prices of medicines.
ECC approves fixing the maximum retail price of 18 new drugs. According to the Ministry of Finance, the cost of these medicines is lower than in other countries in the region.
According to the announcement issued by the Ministry of Finance, the price determination of medicines was approved on the recommendation of the Drug Pricing Committee.
The ECC also approved an increase in the retail price of paracetamol products used for pain and fever, the price of a 500 mg tablet of paracetamol is Rs 2 67 paise while the price of Paracetamol Extra is fixed at Rs 3 32 paise per tablet.
The Economic Coordination Committee chaired by the Finance Minister has also approved a reduction in the retail price of 20 other medicines.
